Bellevue Police Foundation Seeks a Volunteer Executive Director

The Bellevue Police Foundation is looking for a volunteer Executive Director to manage fundraising and administrative activities. The Foundation raises funds to support the specialized training and equipment needs of the men and women of the Bellevue Police Department. The Executive Director works closely with Foundation board members and volunteer staff to develop website content, prepare meeting agendas, coordinate board membership and rotation, coordinate marketing and fundraising events, and support budget management. The Executive Director also personally solicits contributions from the community and delivers presentations about the Foundation to various groups.

The ideal candidate would be someone who is well-connected in the community, passionate about public safety, and who can make a firm, long-term commitment to the Foundation's success. The initial commitment is estimated to be about 3-4 hours per week, with more time needed prior to the annual fundraising breakfast scheduled for late March 2011 and into the future as the Foundation grows. AtWork! creates mutually beneficial work relationships between people with disabilities and mainstream employers in the community. AtWork! is a 501(c)3 organization dedicated to creating meaningful skill-building opportunities for people with disabilities. AtWork! designs customized employment solutions that enhance workplace productivity as well as the lives of AtWork! clients. AtWork! also offers clients a range of training and employment opportunities in its own landscaping, recycling and document management services.

AtWork! is moving forward implementing an ambitious strategic plan over the next three years that includes development of new lines of business, expanding its client base, and growing revenues. AtWork! is interested in engaging with individuals as volunteers and board members who have a passion for inclusion and helping people with disabilities join the mainstream workforce. Specifically, AtWork! needs individuals with experience in marketing, information technology, fundraising, finance and architecture to be involved in its mission of helping people with disabilities be productive, integrated and contributing members of their communities. Board Trustee Candidate Profile

At this time, we are a “working board” still in a building mode. We seek trustees with expertise and professional skills to help continue to develop the Foundation. A potential trustee candidate should include the following attributes:

  • Belief in the LWSF mission, vision & values
  • Commitment to the work and integrity of the LWSF Board
  • Connected or associated with the community of the Lake Washington School District
    • Ability to fulfill requirements and duties of a Trustee, including:
    • Attend at least 75% of the LWSF Board of Trustees meetings. The board meets monthly (except July) on the second Tuesday of every month at 8:45 - 11:00 a.m. at the LWSD Resource Center.
    • Accessible for personal contact in between board and committee meetings
    • Active participation on board committees - each trustee is asked to serve and attend as an active, ongoing member of at least one committee. This may require periodic meetings during the year plus individual committee task completion time. Committees include Fundraising, Grant Writing, Marketing, Program Development, and Board Development, among others.
    • Prepare in advance for decision-making and policy formation at board meetings; take responsibility for self-education on the major issues before the board
    • Responsibly review and act upon committee recommendations brought to the Board
    • Participate in the annual board trustees’ self-review and board development process
    • Utilize personal and professional skills, relationships and knowledge for the advancement of the Foundation
    • Accept a Duty of Due Care and associated fiduciary obligations
  • Willingness to support fundraising, enhance the public standing, and the development activities in a manner appropriate for board trustees (including a personally meaningful contribution)
  • Possess beneficial skills (i.e. fundraising, accounting, finance, legal, marketing, HR, IT, etc)
  • Experience with non-profit organizations and boards (preferable, not required)

Desirable Committee Skills include:

  1. Communications: public relations, marketing, writing / technical writing, graphic design
  2. Resource / Revenue Development: fundraising, community development, donor cultivation
  3. Program Development & Expenditure: creation, management and measurement of programs
  4. Professional Experience: governance, human resources, Finance, contracts, tax code
  5. IT / Database: computer technology & software, database management

    Congregations for the homeless has a need for a large number of volunteers to assist clients in reclaiming their lives. Life coaches, mentors, physicians, attorneys, career trainers, life skills trainers, hair stylists and more are invited to contact CFH. If you have a skill you can share, please think of CFH.

    Furniture Donations Needed for Homeless Women’s Shelter

    The Sophia Way has an immediate need for bedroom furnishings. Other furnishings are welcome as well but beds are the biggest current NEED.

    Mercer Slough Environmental Education Center Visitor Center Docent

    The City of Bellevue Mercer Slough Visitor Center is looking for a volunteer docent. The Visitor Center docent will staff the Visitor Center and deliver interpretive tours/walks at the Mercer Slough Environmental Education Center and adjoining Mercer Slough Nature Park. The Education Center is a new 11 million dollar facility that serves 600-1600 visitors each month.
